Job description

Birley Bakery is the newest opening from the club owner and entrepreneur Robin Birley; owner of prestigious private members’ clubs 5 Hertford Street and Oswald’s in London.

Birley Bakery is located on the Upper East Side’s Madison Avenue, and aims to create a warm and welcoming environment, inspired by the classic concept of Boulangerie-Patisserie. We will fulfil the need of every household craving exceptional quality, by delivering simple yet elegantly crafted bread, pastries and desserts.

Summary of Position :

The Porter plays a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and efficiency of the production facility. You will work closely with the kitchen / facility team to ensure that all cleaning, dishwashing tasks are handled efficiently to maintain a smooth operation.

The role of a Porter :

  • Cleaning : Ensure that all facility areas, including floors, counters, and storage areas, are kept clean and organized at all times. Perform daily deep cleans as per the schedule.
  • Dishwashing : Operate and maintain the dishwashing machines, ensuring all crockery, cutlery, and kitchen utensils are thoroughly cleaned, sanitized, and stored appropriately.
  • Waste Management : Manage waste and recycling processes by emptying bins, following recycling protocols, and ensuring the disposal area is kept clean.
  • Stock Management : Assist in the unloading, checking, and storage of deliveries. Be responsible for organization of supplies.
  • Health & Safety Compliance : Adhere to all health and safety regulations, food safety standards, and company procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Equipment Maintenance : Ensure all kitchen equipment is clean, and report any maintenance or repair needs to the management.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to be flexible with job demands and open-minded when being asked to complete tasks.
  • Ability to operate and use all equipment necessary to clean the facility.
  • Ability to operate with grace under pressure.
  • Ability to work onsite at varied hours / days, based on business needs and hours of operation, which may include early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to stand for up to 8-10 hours a day.
  • Willingness to maintain a clean, healthy, and safe working environment.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • On occasion, may be required to lift and carry, push or pull heavy objects up to 50 pounds; kneel, bend, ascend and descend stairs; reach and grab objects.
