Job Summary
This is a Tax Specialist position that reports to the University Tax Manager in the Controller's Office.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Oversees, corrects, and reconciles the 2 sales tax accounts that are for Indiana Sales Tax, Monroe County Food and Beverage Tax, Monroe County Innkeepers, Morgan County Innkeepers, Marion County Innkeepers, IN RP-11 return, MT Accommodations return, FL Sales Tax Return, MA Sales Tax Return, and WI Salts tax return.
- Monitors KFS and Buy.IU for documents to review and approve.
- Manages the entire Independent Contractor Questionnaire process.
- Runs the entire 1099 process including quarterly and, in some cases, monthly audit reports.
- Runs the entire 1098-T process.
- Responsible for the quarterly process of filing our 8038-GC for new leases.
- Handles all the CRM cases / questions received from IU affiliated individuals and external orgs for independent contractors, 1099s, 1098-T, Sales Tax, Innkeepers Tax, and anything to do with IU's sales tax exemption.
- Maintains all of the sales tax exemptions for Indiana and any other state where we are requested to do so.
- Assists with our annual Form 990-T filing to the IRS.
General Responsibilities
Performs routine independent analysis of tax payments and due dates, vendor payments, and general account ledgers.Applies tax regulations and submits tax returns with various federal, state, and local agencies.Troubleshoots and independently corrects errors through tax audits, escalating moderately complex issues as needed.Serves as a liaison to external funding sources and ensures organizational accounts and procedures maintain compliance with applicable standards.Creates regular reports of tax activity and makes process and risk-mitigation recommendations.Responds to employee inquiries and requests and explains tax policies and procedures.May provide organizational tax training.Qualifications

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This position is eligible for a remote hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.
Advertised Salary
$68,000 - $71,745 annually, depending upon qualifications.
