Must-Have :

Experience in acute medical-surgical care

Ability to work in neonatal antepartum, labor and delivery, and postpartum settings

Description :

This position requires a registered nurse with experience in labor and delivery.

The department handles approximately 50-60 births per year.

Nurses generally follow AWHONN guidelines for ratios, typically maintaining a 1 : 1 or occasionally 1 : 2 patient-to-nurse ratio.

The facility has 2 labor and delivery rooms.

If there is only one patient expected to go home within 24 hours, they will remain in the labor and delivery room; otherwise, they will be transferred to acute care beds.

Postpartum patients will also use acute care beds for longer stays.

The unit does not have surgical techs or aides to assist with care in labor and delivery.

Nurses are required to titrate drips for medications such as insulin and magnesium.

A charge nurse oversees the entire facility during each shift.

All obstetricians are family practice physicians and are available for consultation after hours within 20 minutes.

Anesthesia is available on call, and respiratory therapy equipment is present for treatment if needed.

Registered nurses will monitor patients on magnesium and utilize the fetal monitoring system for assessments.

Shifts are typically scheduled with blocks, and the schedule is planned four weeks in advance.

Weekend work is generally required every other week, and holiday shifts may be necessary.

Floating to acute medical-surgical units will occur if there are no obstetric patients.

Scrub colors must be professional and clean, with no specific color requirement.

Department-specific orientation consists of one day on the unit.
