Indian Health Services, Northern Navajo Medical Center in Shiprock, AZ, is seeking Travel / Contract Labor and Delivery nurses for a long-term travel contract within an Indian Health Services (IHS) facility. What You Can Expect :

  • Contract duration : up to 1 year, with possibility of extension

  • Flexibility : Block scheduling or 36 / 48-hour alternating weeks
  • License : Active RN license from any U.S. state accepted – no Arizona license required
  • Environment : Low-intervention birth setting with both routine and high-risk deliveries

  • Prior IHS or travel experience is a plus
  • Requires 2 years of direct experience in Labor & Delivery, fetal monitoring, and emergency OB response
  • Electronic Charting : RPMS

Your Responsibilities :

As a Travel OB / L&D RN at Northern Navajo Medical Center, you’ll provide family-centered care through all stages of labor, delivery, postpartum, and recovery. You’ll manage laboring patients, assist with deliveries (vaginal and cesarean), and ensure both mothers and newborns receive the safest, most compassionate care possible.

Key Duties Include :

  • Monitoring fetal heart tones and maternal vital signs
  • Supporting patients through labor and delivery using evidence-based practices
  • Administering medications (including epidurals and oxytocin) and managing IVs
  • Assisting physicians with vaginal births and C-sections
  • Performing newborn assessments and supporting breastfeeding initiation
  • Educating patients and families on postpartum care and newborn health
  • Maintaining accurate documentation and ensuring compliance with hospital policies
  • Collaborating closely with OB providers, pediatricians, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff

    Indian Preference Policy :

    Prairie Band, LLC follows Title 22 : Employment Code of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. This role is designated as a TIER 2 position . Preference is given per Section 22-2-4(B), where applicable.

    Requirements :

    Registered Nurse (RN) :

  • Minimum of (2) two years experience required
  • Nursing experience in an Acute Care Setting required
  • Graduated from a National League of Nursing Accredited Nursing Program
  • Bachelor’s degree, Associate's degree, or Diploma from an accredited professional registered nursing education program is required
  • Active BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) required
  • Applicant must have active and unrestricted, current licensure as a Professional Registered Nurse (RN) in any State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Previous experience with IHS Preferred
  • Previous Travel experience preferred
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts and schedules
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Must be willing to pass a federal background check
