About the Department

The Social Sciences Department at Perimeter College is a dynamic, multidisciplinary community dedicated to bringing learning to life. The department's 64 full-time faculty are committed to engaging students in an access, 2-year environment in meaningful discussions, hands-on learning, and real-world applications of social science concepts. The department offers courses in a wide range of fields, including History, Political Science, African-American Studies, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Education, Social Work, Gerontology, Anthropology, Homeland Security & Emergency Management, and Women's, Gender, & Sexuality Studies. Whether examining human behavior, political systems, social institutions, or cultural identities, these courses provide the knowledge and critical thinking skills needed to understand the world and make informed decisions. Many Social Sciences students go on to earn bachelor's and advanced degrees and pursue careers in law, business, education, journalism, criminal justice, and public service. Through their studies, students develop essential skills in communication, creative and critical thinking, research, and scientific inquiry-while gaining a deeper understanding of how people interact, grow, and shape the societies in which they live. Position Description

Perimeter College is seeking part-time instructors in SOCIOLOGY who will play a key role in educating and supporting students.

Required Experience

College-level teaching experience is required.

Required Education

Applicants MUST have a minimum of a Master's Degree, with at least 18 graduate semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) in SOCIOLOGY .

  • Ability to teach Sociology at the collegiate level.
  • Ability to teach effectively using a variety of methods, relate to students and facilitate student learning.
  • Effective communication skills needed.
  • Excellent organizational and teaching skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional technology is required.

Classes at Perimeter College are offered morning, afternoon and evening including weekends

Salary

$3075.00 for each 3-semester credit hour course taught

Job Duties

Description of Job Duty

  • Teach 1 to 2 sections of Intro to Sociology or Intro to Social Problems per term, as needed. Courses will mostly be on one of our five physical campuses, though online classes are possible following our institution's certification process.
  • Create syllabi, assignments and tests, class activities, lectures, etc.
  • Communicate with students outside class via email, phone, and in-person or virtual office hours.
  • Use online learning management system to post syllabus, grades, and other information students need.
  • Do required record-keeping in a timely fashion, e.g. roll verification, progress report grades, final grades.
  • Communicate with department Chair and staff about teaching schedule, any student issues, and other matters as needed.
