Custodian Position
The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for a Custodian. This job announcement will remain open until a sufficient number of applications are received and may close at any time. Specifically, this position involves semi-skilled manual work maintaining, cleaning, and restocking facilities at Port Everglades : Employee provides janitorial services, cleaning, and maintaining facilities orderly. Work involves public contact and requires a neat appearance and a positive attitude. Work is performed in accordance with established practices pertaining to Port-owned and operated buildings. Work is performed under the direction of a supervisor, but the employee will be required to work independently as necessary. Work is inspected while in progress and upon completion.
Minimum education and experience requirements : Requires three (3) months in commercial cleaning, custodial work and related maintenance work or closely related experience. Special certifications and licenses : Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License based on area of assignment. Ability to secure and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification card (TWIC) within 60 days of employment and for the duration of employment. Ability to secure and maintain a valid Seaport Business Purpose Credential for the duration of employment.
Preferences : 6+ months of experience operating cleaning machinery such as buffers, floor scrubbers, etc.
Scope of work includes sweeping, mopping, scrubbing and buffing floors; cleaning walls, ceilings, and woodwork; washing windows. Cleaning restrooms and replenishing supplies. Dusting; emptying waste baskets; changing light bulbs. Moving and setting up furniture; preparing rooms for scheduled programs and activities. Operating and cleaning manual elevators. Cutting grass on adjoining lawns; collecting litter and sweeping walks around public buildings. Cleaning offices, break rooms, halls, stairways, and similar areas in order to provide a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for the public and other staff. Performing a variety of light maintenance activities in order to maintain a safe, clean work environment, facilitate ongoing operations, and maintain day-to-day services. Maintaining inventory of a variety of cleaning products and supplies. May perform a variety of security related duties in accordance with established security procedures. Performs related work as assigned.
