Transportation Engineer
General Purpose : The City of Buckeye is looking for a forward-thinking individual to assist with transportation projects, including research and identification of necessary roadway improvements to support the Buckeye 2040 General Plan. They will work with the City Traffic Engineer and will supervise 3-5 Transportation Engineers. The role also involves transportation planning and traffic operations, safety studies, Safe Routes to Schools (SRTS), and assisting with city capital improvement projects (CIP). The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment and bring innovative solutions to transportation challenges.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities :
- Demonstrates superior customer service toward customers and maintains productive working relationships.
- Conducts and reviews traffic impact studies / analyses and site circulation studies for development projects.
- Maintains and updates the traffic volume and crash data interactive dashboard for the city.
- Revises and maintains the updates of Master Plans including Transportation Master Plan, Bike and Pedestrian Master Plan, ITS Strategic Plan, etc.
- Maintains and updates the engineering design standards under the purview of the departments responsibility.
- Assists in the development and implementation of the transportation capital improvement program.
- Reviews and assists in designing intersections, including traffic signal plans, traffic control plans, traffic signing and striping plans.
- Plans, designs, and implements (following extensive community outreach) citywide neighborhood traffic calming and safe routes to schools programs and related construction projects.
- Confers with and advises general public, private developers, other city departments, and outside public agencies on all aspects related to transportation policies, planning, design, and operations within the city.
- Makes recommendations and prepares plans and related work orders for the installation, removal, and / or maintenance of traffic signals, signage, striping, and other traffic flow pattern improvements and regulatory traffic control devices.
- Evaluates, investigates and responds to citizen requests and inquiries.
- Uses various current technologies in computerized traffic signal coordination, timing and control software and hardware systems as well as video detection systems and advanced detection systems.
