Duties and Responsibilities : The Archaeology Collections Assistant will work in the archaeology lab (located in the Liberal Arts Annex) assisting the NAGPRA (Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act) Coordinator. Primary duties include the rehousing of archaeological materials into culturally appropriate bags and boxes, review of archaeological documents related to NAGPRA collections (including the removal of sensitive photographs of Ancestors, burials, and funerary objects), and digitization of paper documents for the NAGPRA Coordinator and Tribal Partners. Additional duties include assisting with lab projects as they arise, basic cleaning of lab (e.g., sweeping the floor, wiping down tables, disposing of trash). Student will also be responsible for retrieving, shifting, and shelving collection material, and photocopying.
Minimum Qualifications :
Demonstrate respect of living and ancestral Native Americans and their cultural belongings
Ability to pay close attention to detail
Able to respond well to feedback, communicate clearly and follow exact directions
Organization and time management skills
Experience using Word and Excel
Interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Successfully completed a minimum of two anthropology courses (6 ANTH credit hours)
Must be able to work in the Spring 2026 semester
Preferred Qualifications : Major / minor / certificate in anthropology, history, museum studies, or closely related field
Successfully completed ANTH 2120 (Introductory Archaeology)
Successfully completed ANTH 3403 (Collections and Museum Curation Management)
