Introduction
This is an agency specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Natural Resources Police. This is a promotional recruitment and is open to current Natural Resources Police Officers only. The resulting eligible list will be used to fill vacancies within the Natural Resources Police throughout the State of Maryland. Applicants certified to this list will remain eligible for these positions for at least one year.

LOCATION OF POSITION
Locations will be offered / assigned by NRP leadership based on current vacancies and the immediate needs of the department. Interested parties should indicate all areas they would accept employment in when completing the supplemental questionnaire.
Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of a Natural Resources Police (NRP) Corporal is to function as the lead worker enforcing federal and State laws and Department of Natural Resources (DNR) rules and regulations as they apply to DNR / NRP functions and responsibilities related to conservation boating DNR managed lands criminal civil and traffic violations.
POSITION DUTIES
A Natural Resources Police Corporal is the lead worker level of law enforcement work in the Department ofNatural Resources (DNR) enforcing State and federal laws and departmental rules and regulation as they applyto conservation boating DNR managed lands criminal civil and traffic violations. Employees in this classification do not supervise but assign review and monitor the work of and train lower-level natural resources police officers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education : High School diploma or G.E.D. certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission regulation.
Experience : Three years of experience as a commissioned law enforcement officer at least two years of which must have been as a commissioned natural resources law enforcement officer at the full performance level.

1. The above educational requirement is set by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission in accordance with the Annotated Code of Maryland Public Safety Article Section 3-207.
2. Experience defined above must have been certified by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission.
LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION
LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Employees in this classification must possess police officer certification as required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission at the time of application.
2. Employees in this classification will be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle and will be required to possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Selection standards for police officer certification are established by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission in accordance with the Public Safety Article Section 3-207. These selection criteria are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations 12.04.01.04 and include the following : U.S. Citizenship Must be at least 21 years of age A completed background investigation including a check of criminal history Oral interview and truth verification device testing Physical and psychological examination following offer of employment.
2. Employees are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and therefore will be required to provide the employer with a phone number where they can be reached.
3. Employees in this classification will be required to bear firearms and to demonstrate practical knowledge and proficiency in the safe use and care of firearms on a periodic basis.
4. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09 Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
5. Employees in this classification are subject to assignment in any area of the State.

You will be considered ONLY for vacancies in counties in which you express geographic interest on the application as follows : 1) If you indicate interest in one county within an NRP area (Areas 1-8) you will be considered for all available Field Operations positions within that area. Likewise you will not be considered for Field Operations positions within an NRP area if you do not indicate interest in any counties in the Area. 2) If you are interested in a position in Support Services Special Services or Intelligence & Special Investigations Bureaus be sure to list the county in which the main office of the unit is located. Otherwise you will not be considered for vacancies in those Bureaus.
The examination will consist of the following components : a 100-item closed-book written multiple-choice exam.
Candidates must achieve a minimum score of 60% on the written knowledge exam in order to proceed further in the promotional process. Successful candidates will be ranked as Best Qualified Better Qualified or Qualified and placed on the employment (eligible) list for a period of at least one year.
EXAMINATION PROCESS
The Written Exam will be held on January 17 2026. You will receive an email from the Department with yourreport time of the Multiple-Choice Exam. No make-up exams will be scheduled. The exam will beadministered at the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission facility. located at 6852 4th MD 21784.
