Support Technician
The Norfolk Juvenile Detention Center (NJDC) is seeking to hire a Support Technician. This position will primarily work in a detention center control room, answering phone calls and public inquiries, maintaining juvenile detention records, preparing reports, and supporting staff and resident management systems.
Departmental Hiring Salary Range : $40,688.00 - $46,791.
Essential functions include but are not limited to : greeting visitors, scheduling appointments and meetings, coordinating travel arrangements, maintaining and retrieving files, distributing calendars and work schedules, maintaining and ordering office supplies, notifying other agencies of information, answering and directing phone calls and resolving issues, entering data into the computer, processing various plans, keeping various logs of information, preparing various reports, maintaining databases, preparing correspondence and reports, picking up and delivering documents, typing legal correspondence and documents, researching documents as requested, processing incoming mail, processing paperwork, and completing paperwork.
Education / Experience : Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency. One year of general office work experience in a juvenile detention center is preferred. A bachelor's degree or above may substitute work experience (as approved by the department).

Retirement : If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction. If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education.
