We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Project Engineers to oversee and support multiple Industrial construction projects from planning through execution. This role requires a strong understanding of contract plans and specifications, field operations, project scheduling, cost forecasting, and team leadership. The ideal candidate will have a few construction projects under their belt, proactive in identifying and resolving issues, ensuring compliance at the site, and driving operational excellence with the team. District Overview

Cherne Contracting is one of Kiewit's oldest districts. Founded in 1916. Cherne is a valuable part of Kiewit and is well known for safety and quality of execution in amazing projects within the oil, gas, industrial, and chemical sectors. Alone and with other Kiewit districts through internal joint ventures, Cherne not only provides challenges but the stability and career development opportunities expected in a world-class multi-billion-dollar organization.

Location

As a Project Engineer, you will be assigned to projects around the United States, so we are looking for individuals that are willing to go where the work is, which exposes your career to abundant opportunities on different types of projects within the Industrial market. We either provide relocation or per diem / trips home, based on the work that is available.

Responsibilities

Contract Compliance & Field Oversight

Develop a complete understanding of contract plans and specifications.

Inspect field conditions to identify problems, inaccuracies, and potential cost-saving measures.

Take corrective actions as needed to resolve field issues.

Review subordinates' work for compliance with contract documents; address deficiencies and implement corrective measures.

Project Scheduling & Coordination

Develop and maintain the project master schedule using appropriate techniques and scheduling software.

Collaborate with project management personnel to gather input and ensure schedule accuracy.

Document Control & Change Management

Manage document control processes including logging and tracking new issue drawings and contract documents.

Review new issue drawings for changes in conditions; quantify impacts and communicate with supervisor.

Distribute updated documents to field teams and ensure proper implementation.

Cost Forecasting & Financial Planning

Prepare monthly cost projections using data from project management systems.

Develop quarterly cash flow projections to support financial planning.

Operational Improvement & Leadership

Recommend improvements to project operations including staffing, methods, and procedures.

Serve as managing project engineer / coordinator across multiple projects.

Provide supervision and on-the-job training for junior engineers and project staff.

Support and manage the project team, including direct reports and cross-functional personnel.

Safety & Compliance

Promote and enforce company environmental health and safety programs at the project level.

Foster a safety-oriented culture across all project activities.

Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or equivalent years of experience.

8+ years of Field Engineering, or project engineering / management experience in construction and engineering roles. Proven experience managing engineers and project teams.

Ability to read, analyze, and identify discrepancies in engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents.

Working knowledge of project controls terminology and scheduling practices.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint, and Outlook.
