Location : Gresham, Oregon

Full-Time | 40 hours / week | Salary Range : $24 / hr – $26 / hr (DOE) | Benefits Included

Shift : Tuesday-Saturday 12pm-8pm

Position Summary

The Youth Services Coordinator is responsible for designing and implementing programs that support the educational, social, and emotional well-being of children and youth residing in Just Compassion’s 50-unit family shelter in Gresham, OR.

This position coordinates tutoring, enrichment, and age-appropriate activities, while serving as a liaison between the shelter, local schools, and community youth-serving organizations. The Youth Services Coordinator ensures each child has consistent access to education, stability, and meaningful engagement that fosters growth, resilience, and connection during their shelter stay.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Youth Programming and Engagement

  • Plan, organize, and facilitate daily and weekly youth activities, including tutoring, arts, recreation, and enrichment programs that promote academic success and social-emotional development.
  • Maintain a consistent schedule of structured programming aligned with shelter routines and family needs.
  • Create a safe, welcoming, and trauma-informed environment where children and teens feel supported and respected.
  • Engage parents and caregivers to ensure family involvement and continuity in youth activities.
  • Coordinate volunteers and community partners to enhance program offerings (e.g., mentoring, art, reading circles).

Education and School Liaison

  • Serve as a primary liaison between families, schools, and educational support programs to ensure school attendance and academic continuity.
  • Assist families in enrolling children in school and after-school programs, addressing transportation or documentation barriers as needed.
  • Collaborate with McKinney-Vento liaisons, DHS staff, and youth advocates to connect children with educational rights and supports.
  • Maintain communication with teachers, counselors, and school districts to monitor progress and coordinate services.
  • Case Coordination and Family Support

  • Work closely with case managers and behavioral health staff to identify and address youth needs related to mental health, trauma, or developmental concerns.
  • Support caregivers with resources related to child development, parenting, and family engagement.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to share insights and advocate for holistic family support.
  • Maintain awareness of individual service plans and ensure youth-related goals are incorporated and tracked.
  • Community Partnerships and Collaboration

  • Build and maintain partnerships with youth-serving organizations.
  • Coordinate external programming, workshops, and field trips that expand youth experiences and community connection.
  • Represent Just Compassion at youth-focused community meetings, coalitions, and interagency collaborations.
  • Documentation, Compliance, and Safety

  • Maintain accurate attendance logs, activity reports, and case notes in alignment with program standards and funder requirements.
  • Track outcomes related to youth engagement, educational participation, and program satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with child safety protocols, mandatory reporting laws, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Monitor program spaces and equipment to ensure safety and readiness for daily activities.
  • Qualifications

    Required :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child and Family Studies, Social Work, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years of experience working with children or youth in educational, shelter, or social service settings.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, child development, and positive youth engagement strategies.
  • Understanding of McKinney-Vento protections and educational rights for children experiencing homelessness.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with families, schools, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Preferred :

  • Experience working in a family shelter, housing program, or similar environment.
  • Background in after-school program coordination or case management.
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities (Spanish, Russian, or other languages commonly spoken by participants).
  • Familiarity with culturally specific approaches to youth engagement and family support.
  • Work Environment

  • Based on-site at the Gresham family shelter with regular interaction with children, families, and community partners.
  • Exposure to a fast-paced, trauma-informed environment supporting families in crisis and transition.
  • Stay informed on Just Compassion and County policies, procedures, and program standards.
  • Uphold best practices in trauma-informed care, cultural competency, and harm reduction.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Program Manager and funding entities.
  • Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk up and down stairs and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds and assist with light physical tasks (e.g., setting up tables / chairs).
  • Ability to perform job duties that may involve bending, twisting, or reaching.
