About the Role
As the Senior Manager, Real Estate Tax , you’ll serve as the go-to expert for all things property tax. You’ll oversee tax assessments, appeals, and budgeting processes while partnering with internal teams to ensure accuracy, compliance, and cost savings. Your analytical mindset and leadership skills will help optimize property tax operations and influence key business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Tax Leadership
- Evaluate property tax assessments and determine appeal opportunities using cost, income, and sales comparison approaches.
- Conduct in-depth analyses of sales data, rent rolls, income statements, and assessment notices to develop strong appeal cases.
- Make strategic decisions on appeal viability and approach.
Appeals & Representation
Lead the full appeal process—from assessment review through resolution.Represent the company in front of administrative appeals boards and during settlement negotiations.Manage relationships with external consultants and attorneys, ensuring high-quality and cost-effective representation.Financial Planning & Collaboration
Oversee real estate tax budgeting, forecasting, and reporting cycles.Partner closely with Asset Management, Finance, Legal, Property Management, and Accounting teams to communicate valuations, budgets, and appeal outcomes.Provide clear, actionable insight on complex property tax issues to leadership.Operational Excellence
Maintain and update property tax systems and databases.Conduct research, analyze evidence, and prepare recommendations for complex tax matters.Ensure timely and accurate processing of property tax bills and related documentation.Qualifications
Required :
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Real Estate, Business Administration, or related field.Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial property assessment, valuation, or taxation.Advanced understanding of property tax principles, methodologies, and valuation techniques.Strong financial acumen and analytical skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).Preferred :
Experience managing property tax functions within a large real estate portfolio.Strong communication and negotiation skills with experience working cross-functionally.
