Role Description

Mental Health Counselor position involves providing therapeutic services to children, adolescents, and families, which includes developing treatment plans, and providing individual / family counseling. Key duties also include crisis intervention, coordinating with DFCS case managers and other providers, documenting client progress, and educating caregivers on mental health needs. The role requires strong interpersonal skills.

Core responsibilities

• Treatment planning : Develop individualized treatment plans and use various therapeutic modalities, such as CBT or DBT, to address client needs.
• Direct therapy : Provide individual and family counseling sessions, often in the client's home, or telehealth.
• Crisis intervention : Offer crisis intervention services during acute mental health or emotional distress situations.
• Collaboration : Work closely with DFCS case managers, other healthcare professionals, and community partners to coordinate care and support family reunification.
• Documentation : Maintain accurate clinical, administrative, and case notes, including tracking client progress and preparing for transitions.
• Education : Provide guidance and education to caregivers on mental health needs and strategies for managing their child's needs.
