Probation Correctional Officer
This recruitment will establish an employment list to fill current and any future vacancies within the Probation Department. The anticipated life of the employment list is six months. Multiple vacancies are with the Probation Department located in Visalia. The anticipated life of the list is six months. BSCC T-Scores are transferable, if you have taken the BSCC exam within the past 12 months and have passed it you may be exempted from testing. Please let us know before any test day is given to you otherwise you will have to retake the exam. Probation Correctional Officers are peace officers and must meet all the minimum standards pursuant to California Penal and Government codes.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum qualifications are used as a guide for establishing the education, training, experience, special skills and / or license which are required and equivalent to the following.
Education : Equivalent to two (2) years of college preferably with major coursework in one of the behavioral or social science fields.
Experience : None.
Skill / Ability to : Work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds by respecting beliefs, interpersonal styles and behaviors of both clients and co-workers. Operate contemporary office equipment inclusive of computer, keyboard, and all applicable electronic equipment. Observe unusual, suspicious, or unsafe situations and activities, and take appropriate action. Recognize unusual, abnormal, or atypical behavior.
License or Certificate : Possession of for ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license. Earned certificate for successful completion of courses in CPR and First Aid within the first year of hire. Earned certificate for the successful completion of PC 832 within the first year of hire. Earned certificate for the successful completion of Juvenile Correctional Officer Core within the first year of hire.
Additional Information
Prior to employment, applicants must successfully complete and pass a written examination; an oral interview; a medical examination, including a drug and alcohol screen; a physical ability test; a psychological evaluation, and a thorough background investigation to assess their fitness for the position. In accordance with California Government Code 1031, be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship, except as provided in Section 2267 of the Vehicle Code. A felony conviction will result in disqualification. Applicants must meet the minimum Peace Officer Standards as defined in California Government Code Sections 1029 and 1031. Applicants must have a reputation of honesty and trustworthiness. A felony conviction will be disqualifying and convictions for misdemeanors and traffic offenses will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. The background investigation will include reports from former employers, educational institutions, law enforcement agencies, or other relevant sources.
As part of the background investigation process, all candidates will be required to submit to a CVSA examination. The CVSA examination is used to verify the veracity and accuracy of information submitted by applicants regarding, but not necessarily limited to use of controlled substances, driving, criminal history, employment history, and other suitability factors. Candidates will be fingerprinted by Live Scan as a required part of the background investigation. Each fingerprint is scanned into a computer database at the Department of Justice and checked against criminal records nationwide. Information received may include charges that have been dismissed.
