The Dietary Aide at Stony Brook Hospital is an ancillary employee who performs various patient services, including patient visitation, tray assembly, distribution and service, general sanitation, cleaning, and use of kitchen equipment and pantries.
Essential Position :
This position is considered "Essential." The incumbent must report to work regardless of extreme weather or other conditions.
Position Details : Local 1199 Union
Salary : $24.23 per hour
FLSA : Non-Exempt
Schedule :
Part-time; Various hours / Various shifts - Flexibility is a MUST, Weekends and Holidays REQUIRED Must be available 4-8 pm.
Required Qualifications :
High school diploma or equivalent
Excellent customer service skills
Must be able to read, write, and speak English, follow written and verbal instructions, and complete simple computational skills
Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position
Ability to meet acceptable background check standards
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications :
Experience in the healthcare environment
Responsibilities / Essential Functions :
The essential functions and performance expectations for the Dietary Aide are intended to reflect the major responsibilities and duties of the job but are not intended to describe minor duties or other responsibilities that may be assigned occasionally. Requirements represent minimum levels of knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Program / Department Responsibilities :
Deliver meals and nourishments to patients courteously and professionally following departmental procedures.
Collect trays from patient rooms or units as per departmental policy.
Exhibit communication skills necessary to interpret age-specific responses in neonates / infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
Adhere to University Hospital and departmental policies and procedures on universal precautions and patient isolation.
Communicate any patient-related problems to the appropriate personnel.
Operate and clean equipment per departmental procedures.
Safely transport garbage and recyclable material to assigned areas.
Accurately portion and serve food for patients quickly and accurately, with minimum waste, per departmental procedures.
Safely transport food carts and equipment throughout the hospital as required.
Accurately inventory and deliver par stock supplies to identified units and clean per departmental procedures.
Demonstrate knowledge of federal, state, local, and department and follow directions recommended by manufacturers and per SDS sheets.
Demonstrate knowledge of infection control.
Demonstrate knowledge of sanitation, including but not limited to food safety and personal hygiene. Complete food temperature control logs as per established protocol.
Utilize equipment to perform job functions as per departmental safety procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
