Description:
The Part-Time Custodian/Maintenance Employee supports the mission of Light of the World parish by ensuring that church buildings and grounds are clean, safe, welcoming, and well-maintained. This position provides routine custodial work, light repairs, event setup, and general facility oversight.
Work Schedule: Monday, Tuesday and Friday. 10–16 hours per week (including occasional evenings/weekends and holidays). This is not a benefits eligible role.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Custodial Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, meeting rooms, worship spaces, and offices.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust all assigned areas.
- Empty trash and recycling; maintain waste areas in a tidy condition.
- Restock restroom and cleaning supplies.
- Set up and tear down for parish events, meetings, and liturgical celebrations.
Maintenance Responsibilities
- Monitor building systems and notify manager of issues that are outside scope of job duties.
- Occasionally assist team with minor repairs.
- Assist with basic groundskeeping such as sweeping entryways, clearing debris, and simple outdoor tasks.
- Assist with snow removal.
- Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment.
- Ensure equipment is used safely and stored properly.
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain safe and hazard-free conditions throughout parish property.
- Lock and unlock facilities as assigned; ensure buildings are secured.
Requirements:
- Prior custodial or maintenance experience preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks (bending, climbing, standing, etc.).
- Basic knowledge of maintenance tools and cleaning equipment.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
- Must be able to communicate with staff and volunteers.
- Respect for Catholic values and willingness to maintain a reverent environment in sacred spaces.
- Practicing Catholic preferred.
