The position of Parks Irrigation Specialist supports the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space's vision of connecting with the community and being acknowledged as an essential service defining the quality of life in Aurora. Overview of Position / Department
The Irrigation Specialist performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in the design, installation, repair, maintenance, and operation of irrigation systems; may serve as lead worker over an assigned group of employees engaged in irrigation projects.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on irrigation, equipment, and systems; runs tests, troubleshoots, and makes minor / major repairsPerforms repairs on PVC pipe from a one-half inch up to and including six-inch pipeAbility to make minor electrical repairsPerform locates as neededRuns tests, troubleshoots, and makes minor / major repairsParticipate in the installation of material, equipment, and systemsPerform field inspectionsOperates related computerized controls and monitors equipmentOperates satellite controllers using various radio system controlsPerforms irrigation programming with central irrigation control, maintains records of operation, maintenance, and repairsMaintains records of operation, maintenance, and repairsMaintains parts and supplies inventory and provide input to assist in soliciting bids for purchasing.Assists in training other employees and acts in supervisory capacity as neededResponds to inquiries from the public seeking direction and assistance after interpreting policies and procedures.Works a rotating on call schedulePerforms other related duties as assignedThis job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee. Minimum Qualifications & Working Conditions
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Education :
High School Diploma or GED.Experience :
At least (2) two years of experience in maintenance, and at least (1) one year of Irrigation experience.Experience to include mainline and lateral repairs, valve repair, electrical components, and radios.Licenses and Certifications Required :
Class B Commercial Driver's License with airbrakes and tanker endorsement required in first (6) six monthsSustainable Landscape Management (Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado) cert required within (12) twelve months of employmentAnnual reuse water training cert required within (12) twelve months of employmentCross Connection Control and Backflow Prevention Device Tester Certifications within (12) twelve months of employmentMay require additional licensing and / or certification appropriate to assigned functionThis position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employmentLicenses and Certifications Preferred :
