Director Of Engineering (Healthcare)

The Director Of Healthcare Engineering plays a pivotal role in building and maintaining client relationships, responding to RFPs, and presenting for potential projects.

This position involves developing conceptual designs, peer reviewing final designs, and managing staffing and resource planning within the department. Serving as the primary client contact, the Director is responsible for the overall coordination and execution of projects, managing a team of direct reports.

Responsibilities

  • Provide management, mentoring, and team oversight for the respective discipline.
  • Ensure cross-discipline coordination and maintain technical quality using QA / QC processes.
  • Document QA / QC reviews and manage teams of direct reports.
  • Conduct meetings to support supervision efforts.
  • Maintain project scheduling and manpower assignments.
  • Develop bid proposals, contracts, and cost estimates.
  • Offer engineering expertise in drawings, designs, specifications, and calculations.
  • Review project plans and timelines to ensure projects are on time and on budget.
  • Adjust manpower and resources as needed to meet deadlines and budget constraints.
  • Establish and maintain excellent client relationships.
  • Collaborate with other Department Directors for efficient department operations.
  • Hire, train, and mentor engineering staff.
  • Write performance appraisals and mediate performance issues.
  • Ensure accurate project status and compliance with accounting protocols.
  • Maintain department budget and revenue projections.
  • Support department marketing efforts related to design and commissioning certification.

Essential Skills

  • At least 15 years of progressive engineering and managerial experience in critical care facilities and laboratories.
  • Deep knowledge of multi-discipline engineering including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection for critical care healthcare projects.
  • Understanding of laboratory mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design.
  • Proficiency in construction document development and detailed design for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical / IT systems.
  • Knowledgeable of local, state, and national code requirements including NFPA, Joint Meeting, FGI, and AHJ.
  • Experience with load analysis and energy modeling programs such as eQUEST, Trane Trace, and ENERGY STAR.
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.
  • PE license required.
  • Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the USGBC Rating system and standards is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills to interface with hospital executives.
  • Ability to simplify complex technical concepts.
  • Hands-on design engineering experience in healthcare projects.
  • Strong financial management skills and business acumen.
  • Excellent time management and multitasking abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Capable of effectively training and mentoring others.
  • Able to work collaboratively with internal and external resources.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $185000.00 - $200000.00 / yr.
