Position Summary : :

Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is seeking a part-time Circulation Services Assistant for the North Carolina Research Campus (NCRC) in Kannapolis, NC. Responsibilities include but are not limited to : registering patrons for library cards, checking materials out and in, shelving returned materials, handling minor printer problems, collecting overdue fees, answering simple reference questions, and other duties as assigned.

Required Education / Experience : :

High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), and six (6) months of clerical, customer service, or office experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Work Hours : :

The hours for this position are Monday – Thursday, 1 : 00 p.m. – 7 : 00 p.m., and rotating Fridays, 7 : 45 a.m. to 2 : 00 p.m. However, the candidate should be able to work the occasional evening in the event of staff vacations, illnesses, and vacancies, up to a maximum of 29 hours per week.

This position’s primary duty station is at the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis, NC. However, the candidate should be flexible to travel to other campuses in the event of staff vacations, illnesses, and vacancies as needed.

Duty and Responsibility : :

Performs a wide range of library circulation activities, which includes : assisting and training patrons, student workers, faculty, and staff in finding print and electronic resources; ascertaining and responding to patron’s needs; searching for and pulling materials from shelves for patrons; processing incoming and outgoing library materials; creating and updating patron records; placing materials on hold; communicating library policies and procedures; and / or performing related activities.

Provides support for the department, which may include processing monies, ordering materials, obtaining payments for fines; preparing and disseminating notifications of overdue items.

Answer routine reference inquiries, and refer patrons needing further assistance to librarians.

Participates in ordering and maintaining library materials, which may include : assisting in determining materials to discard; processing purchased and donated materials; ordering supplies and cataloging materials; and performing related activities.
