Heavy Equipment Operator I - Streets (Non-Exempt)

Job Title

Operates and services the heavier types of construction equipment such as backhoe (less than 5 feet), mower, dump truck, front end loader, skid steer, salt spreaders and other construction equipment of comparable size and complexity.

Essential Functions

• Operate backhoe (less than 5 feet), mower, dump truck, front end loader, skid steer, salt spreaders and other construction equipment of comparable size and complexity.
• Maintain and service equipment and trucks;
• Operate mechanical attachments and equipment on vehicles;
• Operate pickups and other light equipment when assigned;
• Perform related duties as directed.

Qualifications

Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with a preference of experience in the operation of motorized construction equipment; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following : Valid TX Driver License Commercial Driver License (CDL) within one year of hire Physical Exam Required

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of : Operation and maintenance of heavy motorized equipment typically used in construction or maintenance activities.

Ability to : Operate heavy equipment skillfully and safely to assist in maintenance of streets, alleyways and maintain other city right of way; Perform maintenance and service work on trucks and heavy equipment; Make field repairs; Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Assist during times of inclement weather running snow equipment during Emergency Operations Ability to be on call after the hours on a rotational basis.
