Pharmacist

SUMMARY : Serves patients by preparing medications; giving pharmacological information to multidisciplinary health care team; monitoring patient drug therapies. The float Pharmacist helps us maintain coverage between all 3 locations. The locations are Jamestown, Dunkirk, and South Dayton. The position is flexible between 32-40 hours a week.

Job Description / Duties

• Prepares medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders; detecting therapeutic incompatibilities.
• Dispenses medications by p ackaging and labeling pharmaceuticals.
• Controls medications by monitoring drug therapies; advising interventions.
• Completes pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technicians' work flow
• V erify prescription preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals; verify order entries
• Provides t horough documentation
• Provides pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals
• C ounsel patients on drug therapies and demonstrate use of devices as needed .
• Answer phone calls and appropriately addres s / direct patient and medical provider needs
• Develops clinical staff's pharmacological knowledge by participating in clinical programs
• T raining pharmacy staff, students, interns, externs, residents, and other health care professionals.
• Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration by maintaining records for controlled substances
• Re moving outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory
• S upervi se the work results of support personnel
• S tudy existing and new legislation
• A dvis e management on needed actions.
• Protects patients and technicians by adhering to infection-control protocols.
• Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Maintains contact with other departments, medical staff, and nursing staff to determine needs, resolve problems
• Adhere to all guidelines set forth in the pharmacy policies and procedures
• Adheres to standard procedures at The Chautauqua Center
• Attend meetings as directed
• Availability to work variable hours including evening s or Saturdays as needed
• Other duties as assigned .
