OFFICE OF THE CHIEF MEDICAL EXAMINER
BOARD OF MEDICOLEGAL INVESTIGATIONS
Position :
Pathologist Technician : PTE
Location :
OCME- Eastern Division in Tulsa
Salary : USD 21.44 Hourly
Shift :
Saturday, Sunday, and one weekday (to be determined by scheduling needs) 20 hours / week
Description of duties :
Recruits must meet the physical and mental requirements of the job. A pathology technician is exposed to violent, unusual, unnatural, suspicious, and other types of death. This position is physically demanding and rigorous, requiring the ability to lift, push, pull, and bend repetitively, as well as stand for extended periods. Recruits must be able to push, pull, slide, and roll bodies weighing 250-400 + lbs. A pathologist technician will assist the forensic pathologist with autopsies and examinations, and must follow the policies and procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
Typical Functions :
Taking / Uploading photographs
Toxicological specimen collection and packaging
Collects and documents personal effects
Evidence collection and packaging
Assist with the intake / release of human bodies under OCME jurisdiction
Perform radiologic procedures
Maintaining proper chain of custody processes and procedures
Operate tools, including scalpels, saws, shears, knives, and flames
Collects fingerprints for identification purposes using various techniques, including inked, digital, photographic, and dermal.
Update daily case log
Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or the Deputy Chief
Training :
This position has a dedicated training period of 6-12 weeks. The level of skills development will determine the duration of the training period, but a minimum of 6 weeks can be expected.
Training will be M-F and the weekend rotation of which your trainer is scheduled. Upon training completion, the recruit will transition into the schedule outlined above.
Education and Experience :
Bachelor's degree in forensic sciences or a related area of study; preferred.
Two years of experience as an autopsy technician or in a medical or scientific-related field.
OCME will consider an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Special Requirements :
OCME employees must possess and maintain the physical and mental stamina to perform the required work and be willing to accept the physical discomforts inherent to this position.
Recruits must be 21 years of age, possess a valid ID, and be able to pass a rigid character background investigation.
OCME cannot simultaneously employ any funeral home or law enforcement agency employees.
Recruits cannot be related to a current OCME employee.
Applicants must be willing and able to fulfill all job-related travel typically associated with this position. Some positions may require possession of a valid Oklahoma Driver's license to operate state-owned vehicles. Some agencies may have determined positions in this job family to be safety sensitive as defined by 63 O.S. § 427.8
