Overview
Under the direction of a Stores Administrator, the Storekeeper for the Logistics Section of the Department of Utilities is responsible for supporting the department's operations and maintenance teams by purchasing, warehousing, and distributing parts and equipment needed to maintain and repair the City's water, wastewater and drainage systems. Tasks include fulfilling purchase requests, creating new inventory items, editing and updating existing inventory item information, performing cycle counts, year-end inventory counts, receiving, issuing warehouse stock, and assisting with other program areas as requested.
The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, have customer service experience, be open to learning, and be able to manage priorities in a continuously evolving work environment. An understanding of the procure-to-pay lifecycle for goods and services is preferred, but not required; experience with work order management or inventory software is desired, but not required.
Responsibilities
- Review the ordering, receiving, sorting, issuing, and delivering of a diversified inventory of materials, supplies, tools, parts and other items to ensure adherence to applicable codes and regulations.
- Inspect shipments for compliance with specifications, quantities, cost, conditions, or other details.
- Prepare reports when discrepancies are found and ensure items are correctly packaged and returned.
- Assist in training new personnel.
- Maintain adherence to established storekeeping procedures.
- Enter and retrieve information from computerized records systems to prepare, monitor, track, and maintain stores records.
- Coordinate cycle and blind inventory counts, verify data, and prepare reports on inventory results.
- Assist in the preparation of RFQs and RFPs for bid advertising; review invoices and blanket purchase orders to maintain inventory and follow up on overdue shipments.
- Identify and contact vendors for best price when emergency purchases are necessary.
- Coordinate storekeeping activities with other City departments, divisions, and contractors; respond to inventory questions from department staff.
- Schedule and dispatch tools and equipment for daily use, including cranes, dump trucks, and other heavy equipment; coordinate return and inspection of tools and equipment and arrange for repairs if needed.
- Ensure storerooms and / or tool rooms are maintained in a clean and orderly fashion.
- Operate a forklift, crane and other storeroom equipment; provide exceptional customer service.

Experience : Two years of experience performing storekeeping and inventory work. Experience with public agency procurement is desirable.
Education : High school diploma or its equivalent.
Special Qualifications
Special Requirements : Ability to enter data at a speed not less than 30 net words per minute. Some positions may require familiarity with the department's technical items.
Driver License : Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License at the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Physical Requirements :
Observing; operating assigned equipment; communicating with others.Walking, standing or sitting for extended periods; lifting up to 50 pounds; bending, stooping and climbing.Probationary Period : Employees must complete twelve (12) months of probation at a satisfactory performance level prior to gaining permanent status.
