General Summary

The APP is an integral member of the inpatient medical team at AdventHealth Porter Hospital, providing high quality, compassionate, and coordinated patient care. This role primarily focuses on the comprehensive management of orthopedic surgical patients in collaboration with the orthopedic surgical team, nursing, care management and other ancillary teams. The APP will primarily assess, diagnose, and manage post-surgical orthopedic patients, facilitate multi-disciplinary rounds, and aid in discharge planning for optimal recovery and healing. The position supports the AdventHealth ministry of Christ through whole person care- addressing the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of every patient.

Principal Duties And Job Responsibilities

  • Provides daily rounding, assessment and management of postoperative orthopedic patients in collaboration with orthopedic surgeons / APPs. May flex to other care areas / units that Hospital Medicine covers if the Orthopedic surgical schedule / volumes decrease to optimize value.
  • Manages orthopedic consultations in a timely manner.
  • Evaluates and manages medical comorbidities and post-surgical complications to optimize recovery and outcomes.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary rounds to ensure effective communication, discharge planning and timely patient throughput.
  • Accepts transfers of care from the orthopedic service lines if the patient is requiring increased medical management post-operatively.
  • Responds and participates in Rapid Responses and Code Blue as needed.
  • Participates in staff education through various education modalities.
  • Participates in committees and meetings as needed or assigned.
  • Responds to clinical, documentation queries in a timely manner.
  • Maintains current understanding of regulatory environment.
  • Encourages in-network utilization of resources for continuity of care unless otherwise specified by patient or physician.
  • Participation as needed in quality improvement initiatives and performance metrics.
  • Supports effective hospital throughput with patient management.
  • Monday through Friday schedule, inclusive of evenings and holidays based on facility and hospital medicine program needs.
  • Knowledge And Skills Required

  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.

  • Excellent clinical and communication skills.
  • Strong commitment to providing exceptional care that is team and patient centered.
  • Hospitalist APP experience preferred.
  • Education And Experience Required

  • Graduate of an MSN or DNP Nurse Practitioner Program.
  • Graduate of a Physician Assistant, PA-C Program.
  • Licensure, Certification Or Registration Required

  • Full Federal and State Prescriptive Authority.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Current ACLS Certification.
  • Possess or have the ability to procure and maintain a Colorado Medical License.
  • Current DEA Licensure.
  • Required Competencies

  • Active member of the hospital medical staff and / or employed by the hospital.
  • Performs duties and interacts with others in a professional manner.
  • Maintains good working relationships with all coworkers.
