Job Summary
We are seeking a patient, creative, and reliable individual to join our Adult Day Training (ADT) program team. The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for providing care, support, and supervision to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a safe, structured, and welcoming environment.
This role focuses on building independence and encouraging creativity, helping participants develop vital life skills while engaging in fun, meaningful activities. The DSP must be reliable, compassionate, and committed to supporting the growth and dignity of each individual we serve.
You will be assigned to one of two key program areas :
Learning Room
Support participants in learning and practicing essential daily living skills, including :
Brushing their teeth and hair
Tying shoes and dressing
Counting and handling money
Folding laundry and organizing personal items
Preparing simple meals (e.g., sandwiches)
Other activities that promote independence and self-confidence
Arts & Crafts Room
Foster creativity and self-expression through hands-on art projects, such as :
Painting canvases, pumpkins, masks, and other crafts
Seasonal and themed creative projects
Preparing supplies at the start and end of each day
Cleaning and organizing the space for safety and efficiency
Monitoring supply levels and reporting low inventory
Key Responsibilities
Participant Support
Greet consumers, visitors, and staff in a welcoming and professional manner.
Provide direct care and supervision, including assistance with hygiene, grooming, meal preparation, counting money, and other life skills.
Engage participants in structured programs, recreational activities, and community outings to promote independence and social engagement.
Promptly and accurately check participants in and out each day.
Offer guidance with simple tasks such as filling out job applications or basic forms.
Adapt activities to meet varying skill levels and abilities.
Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating patience, compassion, and professionalism at all times.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Follow all health and safety protocols, including emergency procedures.
Complete accurate documentation and charting, such as attendance records, progress notes, and incident reports.
Maintain strict confidentiality of participant information in compliance with APD (Agency for Persons with Disabilities) guidelines.
Promote proper hygiene and cleanliness during and after all activities.
Communication & Professionalism
Communicate respectfully and effectively with participants, families, visitors, and team members.
Maintain a calm, supportive demeanor when addressing challenging behaviors.
Collaborate with colleagues to ensure smooth daily operations and solve problems proactively.
Administrative Support
Answer incoming phone calls, respond to inquiries, and direct calls appropriately.
Greet and direct visitors or participants to the correct rooms or departments.
Assist with basic office tasks using computer software.
Perform fingerprinting services when required.
Facility Upkeep
Keep all participant and common areas safe, clean, and organized.
Restock essential supplies such as paper towels and soap.
Sweep and mop lobby floors every Wednesday and Friday to maintain a professional appearance.
Work Standards
Punctuality & Attendance : Arrive on time for all shifts; consistent attendance is critical for participant care.
Dress Code : Business casual attire or scrubs; clothing must be clean and professional.
Clocking In & Out : Accurately record work hours each day.
Lunch Breaks : Take breaks responsibly while ensuring proper participant supervision.
Teamwork : Support coworkers to create a positive, collaborative environment.
Daily Tasks : Complete all duties by the end of each shift to maintain a well-run program.
Qualifications
Education : High school diploma or GED required.
Experience : Previous work with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities preferred, but not required .
Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to remain calm and professional when handling challenging situations.
Basic computer skills for documentation and administrative duties.
Certifications : CPR / First Aid (or willingness to obtain).
Must pass a Level II background screening and drug screening as required by Florida regulations.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and engage with participants for extended periods.
Occasionally lift up to 25 lbs. to assist participants or move program supplies.
Preferred Certifications (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
Medication Administration (Med Tech)
Behavioral Safety Training (e.g., PCM, CPI)
