PURPOSE : Under direct supervision, greets incoming customers in a pleasant and professional manner. Processes payment of customer purchases at retail locations. Counts money to verify amounts and issues receipts for funds received using a cash register. Provides training and assistance to less experienced cashiers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Greets customers and receives payment; issues receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers; packages customer purchases; thanks customers for their business.
• Acknowledges incoming customers in a pleasant manner and provides product information, location, and general store knowledge.
• Directs customer to product pick-up point, if necessary.
• Opens and closes-out till and accurately documents all transactions, makes accurate change, verifies credit cards and checks, and balances receipts.
• Approves cash refunds or issues credit memorandums to customers for returned merchandise within company guidelines.
• Processes rain checks by contacting customers when out-of-stock merchandise is received.
• Provides prompt and efficient telephone service.
• Keeps work area clean and neat.
• Assists in pricing and stocking inventory, display preparation and maintenance, and maintains quality store presentation.
• Participates in annual physical inventory activities.
• Provides training and assistance to less experienced cashiers.
• Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injury to self or co-workers; attends periodic safety meetings as required; may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required. High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and two (2) years cashier or related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
