Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Tele position requiring night shifts, strong Med / Surg skills, and a current NC or compact license.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a hospital medical / surgical telemetry unit
  • Patient ratio is typically 1 : 6-7
  • Care for adult medical / surgical patients, including those requiring heparin drips and insulin administration
  • Shift is 3x12 hour nights (18 : 45 - 7 : 15), 36 hours per week
  • Weekend shifts required every other weekend
  • Work on holidays is required; must work at least 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • Floating to similar units and affiliate hospitals is required, typically once a week
  • EMR system used is Epic; Pyxis is used for medication management; SBAR is used for communication
  • Assignment lengths of 13-26 weeks accepted
  • Consolidation to Centralized Office or preassignment to units may occur mid-contract
  • Scrub color is navy
  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for med / surg telemetry patients, including managing heparin drips
  • Participation in Storm Team and / or Hurricane Team is required, including reporting to work during disasters or mass casualty events
  • Required to complete approximately 24 hours of unit orientation
  • No RTO allowed in the first week of the assignment; up to 7 days of RTO may be approved if not on a holiday
  • Fatigue policy limits work to no more than 5 days in a row or 60 hours per week
  • Online and in-person modules must be completed pre-start and annually
  • Current travel Per Diem clinicians at this health system are not eligible for a travel contract simultaneously
  • Candidates living within 50 miles are offered a local rate

    • Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required at time of start
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent Med / Surg Tele experience required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification required
  • Must have experience with heparin and insulin administration
  • Must pass an EKG test prior to start
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Must provide 2 manager or supervisor references from within the past 12 months by start date
  • Candidates must not have been a permanent, PRN, or EP staff employee of the specified health system within the past 12 months
