The Department of the Corporation Counsel, Litigation Division, is hiring a Claims Management Specialist in Honolulu. This role is all about protecting the City and County of Honolulu from financial and legal risks, ensuring that claims are managed fairly and efficiently. As a Claims Management Specialist, you'll play a key role in investigating, assessing, and resolving claims, and helping the Litigation Division safeguard the City's interests. This position is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, organized, and skilled at balancing investigative analysis with sound judgment.

Must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, investigative work that requires moderate to arduous physical exertion, including but not limited to, the ability to :
Ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, and stairs
Move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces to access and investigation site
Traverse regular and steep terrain
Bend, crawl on hands and knees, and / or reach and lift to perform inspections
Lift and carry or otherwise move 25 pounds
Use of personal vehicle.

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment. EDUCATION REQUIREMENT : Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four year college or university with a bachelor's degree. Substitution : Work experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree. For example : Four (4) years of professional work experience, in any occupation, may substitute for a general bachelor's degree. Four (4) years of general work experience (does not need to be professional level experience) in claims adjustment may substitute for a general bachelor's degree. The education requirement must be met at the time of application. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at an accredited college / university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, proper documentation, e.g., a foreign credential evaluation (FCE), must be provided. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT : Two (2) years of progressively responsible professional work experience which involved investigating, analyzing, adjusting and settling claims of liability, property damage, worker's compensation and / or automobile cases for insurance companies and / or self-insured programs of government and / or major private organizations. Applicable Skills : Knowledge of the principles and practices of insurance claims adjusting. Knowledge of risk management principles, concepts and practices. Knowledge of claims investigations and settlement techniques. Knowledge of interviewing and investigating methods and techniques. Ability to investigate, evaluate, adjust and settle liability, property, personal injury, and automobile claims. Ability to read and evaluate medical reports relating to claims for injury. Ability to exercise sound judgment in analyzing and evaluating a wide variety of claim data to identify issues and make recommendations for the adjustment of claims. LICENSE REQUIREMENT : Possession of a valid driver's license (Type 3 / automobile), prior to appointment.
