Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead and mentor a team of engineers, providing support, feedback, and professional development opportunities
Oversee project execution from scoping through design and delivery, ensuring technical accuracy, timeliness, and client satisfaction.
Foster a collaborative team environment and serve as the go-to resource for escalated questions or project challenges.
Support business development through client engagement and project proposal preparation.
Ensure quality control by reviewing substation design packages as needed (including one-lines, conduit schedules, BOMs, relay panel layouts, etc.).
Collaborate across disciplines and departments to support a variety of substation project types (e.g., breaker upgrades, transformer replacements, RTU and fiber upgrades, bus protection).
Provide occasional technical guidance in physical or P&C design, with an emphasis on developing junior team members.
Lead team participation in field walkdowns and site visits, as required.
Maintain awareness of project budgets, schedules, and risks.
Knowledge and Skill
Proven leadership experience managing engineering teams, including performance management, mentoring, and team development.
Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to balance technical oversight and people leadership.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred.
Minimum 5 years of experience in the utility industry; QA / QC experience on substation projects is highly valued.
Working knowledge of substation engineering practices, whether physical or protection & control (P&C).
Familiarity with substation components and systems, including power transformers, breakers, control houses, and ground grids.
Understanding of relevant codes and standards (e.g., NEC, NESC, IEEE, NEMA, ANSI).
PE license preferred but may be waived based on experience.
Willingness to travel to substation sites as needed.
