Mission

Position Summary

This position will support the Engineering Group by performing design work, evaluating and optimizing existing systems, troubleshooting systems, and working closely with fellow site operations personnel.

Responsibilities :

  • Prepare and check moderately complex calculations within the Mechanical Engineering discipline, including pipe / vessel design and pressure relief valve sizing calculations per ASME codes such as B31.3, Section VIII and IX.
  • Efficiently utilize AutoDesk AutoCAD and Inventor to prepare mechanical engineering drawings in 2D and 3D including but not limited to Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), mechanical fabrication drawings, and room / building layout drawings.
  • Independently lead design / build projects across all 3 NETL sites.
  • Review interdisciplinary engineering documents and work with other members of the engineering team to resolve any issues.
  • Create productive relationships with organizations within and external to the Engineering Group.

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent education) in an appropriate engineering discipline or the sciences from a four-year accredited college or university or Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology and a Professional Engineering License.
  • 0 – 15 years of professional experience.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications, organizational skills, and the ability to perform detail-oriented work are required.
  • Ability to pass a Fit for Duty employment test to verify the ability to meet the physical and functional demands of the position.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • Ability to pass a background investigation, including but not limited to a nationwide criminal record search, and other relevant background information deemed necessary by the contract
  • United States citizenship is required to work on a federal contract and will be electronically verified via E-Verify
  • Physical Requirements :

    Most positions involve work typical of an office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting with occasional use of a computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech / hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning / organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.

    Travel Requirements :

    Travel to Pittsburgh, PA, Morgantown, WV, or Albany, OR NETL site may be required. (
