Surgical Assistant - Oral Surgery

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct Patient Care and Management
- Prepare for patient exams, ensuring all referrals, X-rays, and paperwork are accurate and complete.
- Operate all X-ray and imaging equipment, including taking X-rays and CT scans for patient diagnostics.
- Greet and escort patients and their guests to treatment rooms, creating a warm, empathetic environment.
- Review and present treatment plans, emphasizing the surgeon's recommendations while addressing patient questions and concerns.
- Facilitate patient scheduling for surgeries, with a focus on adherence to treatment recommendations.
- Anticipate the surgeon’s needs during exams and surgeries to ensure seamless workflow and efficiency.
- Provide detailed pre- and post-operative instructions, ensuring all patient questions are thoroughly addressed.
- Handle patient queries and feedback professionally, including managing difficult conversations with patients or families.
- Address and resolve angry or dissatisfied patient concerns without escalating to the doctor unless absolutely necessary.
Clinical and Surgical Support
Set up and maintain sterile environments in exam and surgical rooms.Assist during surgeries with precision, adhering to sterile techniques and prioritizing patient safety.Monitor patient vitals during sedation, demonstrating proficiency in understanding and documenting metrics.Perform pre- and post-operative appointments and assign surgery times to maximize daily efficiencyTreatment Room Management and Sterilization
Ensure all equipment and supplies are sterilized, stocked, and ready for use.Oversee the cleanliness and organization of sterilization and treatment rooms, adhering to OSHA regulations.Maintain and document sterilization processes, keeping instruments and handpieces compliant and ready.Manage and monitor laboratory, pathology, and radiology cases, ensuring timely delivery and results.Office Cleanliness
Maintain constant and hyper-awareness of the cleanliness and order of the office in all aspects.Follow routine cleaning schedules and ensure all team members participate in keeping the office in the best shape.Clean all areas, including breakrooms, dishes, fridge, theater rooms, doctor's office, and bathroom, as needed.Identify and recommend repairs or maintenance to maintain a professional and welcoming environment.Record Management
Securely handle and document patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.Create accurate, professional notes in the electronic health record, aligned with the surgeon’s approval.Track cases and referrals, ensuring seamless communication with external offices.Inventory Management
Monitor and order supplies as needed, prioritizing cost-effective decisions.Manage medications to ensure availability and compliance with expiration dates.Maintain emergency kits and nitrous and oxygen tanks, always ensuring readiness.Continuous Improvement
Continuously evaluate and monitor processes such as sterilizing instruments, flipping rooms, patient management, and safety measures to identify better and safer methods that are cost-effective.Maintain hyper-awareness of the office environment, ensuring professionalism and trustworthiness in all interactions.Team and Office Contributions

Current BLS certification (self-maintained).Proficiency in operating X-ray and imaging equipment.Strong communication, emotional intelligence, and interpersonal skills.Ability to handle difficult conversations with patients and families professionally, including managing dissatisfaction or anger without escalating unnecessarily.Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and time-management abilities.Familiarity with OSHA regulations and HIPAA compliance.PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift / move up to 25 pounds.Manual dexterity for precise instrument handling.Ability to remain composed under pressure and thrive in a fast-paced, occasionally high-stress environment while maintaining efficiency and professionalism.Company Description
