SUMMARY
Hennepin Healthcare has a current opening for a Security Dispatcher in our Security department. This full-time position will work rotating days, evenings, and nights. A $1,000 sign-on bonus is available for eligible external candidates (contract/temporary workers and former employees returning to HHS within one year are ineligible). Under general supervision, performs work of routine difficulty in the operation of a central alarm station using computers and various communications equipment, initiating proper response for emergency and non-emergency situations.RESPONSIBILITIES
- Receive emergency and non-emergency calls for security service and medical assistance
- Prioritize calls and initiate appropriate action based on incident type and importance
- Contact police, fire, ambulance in emergency situations and coordinate proper response
- Dispatch security officers or other personnel using two-way radio or telephone
- Operate and monitor a wide range of moderately complex computer driven equipment, including
- systems for life/safety, security alarm, closed circuit television and building automations
- Query callers to obtain detailed incident information, record duties and activities
- Generate reports, maintain records, and perform data entry functions
- Operate multi-line telephone system
- Notify appropriate managers or supervisors of critical conditions on a 24-hour basis
- Performs other duties as assigned but only after appropriate training
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent
- 2+ years dispatch or communications experience in a busy, high-stress environment

- An approved equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in a health care setting
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities
- Computer literacy and the ability to quickly learn new computer-driven systems
- Ability to handle a high volume of work, multiple simultaneous tasks, and interruptions
- Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Proficiency in customer service; emotional control/tact in dealing with the public
- Prior experience monitoring fire/life safety systems
- Prior experience using a multi-line phone system and/or helping customers by phone
- The ability to quickly learn new tasks/concepts
