About Operation Food Search :

Founded in 1981, Operation Food Search is a hunger relief organization that provides food, nutrition education and innovative programs in order to reduce food insecurity and increase equitable access to food. We serve 200,000 people every month through a network of 330 partners in 25 counties in Missouri and Illinois. We use a combination of immediate food assistance and supportive services, while also working on long-term solutions and systemic changes to help solve the problem of hunger.

Position Summary :

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the In-Kind Donations Director leads the strategy and execution of OFS's in-kind donation program-primarily food and select product donations. This role manages and grows relationships with regional and national donors, cultivates new partnerships, and collaborates internally with our warehouse, communications, and agency services teams. With one direct report (Food Donations Specialist), this position is critical to achieving over $30 million annually in in-kind contributions.

Essential Functions :

  • Strategic Planning & Goal Achievement
  • Develop and lead execution of an annual plan to secure $30M+ in in-kind donations of food and other products.

  • Partnership Development & Relationship Management
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with food industry stakeholders-including grocery partners, suppliers, farmers, distributors, and manufacturers-and identify new partnership opportunities through proactive outreach and trade association engagement.

  • Donor Engagement & Stewardship
  • Lead tours, host visits, and execute stewardship activities for food and product donors, including media recognition, thank-you events, and social content.

  • Donor Communication & Promotion
  • Develop promotional and stewardship materials in collaboration with the Communications team to enhance donor visibility and engagement.

  • Operational Coordination
  • Collaborate with the Director of Distribution to manage the allocation and receipt of donated goods, and coordinate with the Agency Advocate team to facilitate partner agency pickups and issue resolution.

  • Leadership & Oversight :
  • Supervise and support the Food Donations Specialist, providing guidance on performance and professional development, and oversee the Food Donor Advisory Board, including meeting planning, member recruitment, and agenda setting.

  • Organizational Collaboration
  • Actively participate in organization-wide initiatives and events such as

    Shop Out Hunger and

    April Showers to promote community engagement and donor relations.

    Qualifications & Experience :

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, sales, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred.
  • 5–7 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising or sales in the food industry.
  • 1–2 years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Proven relationship-building and donor stewardship expertise.
  • Track record of exceeding goals and managing complex donor portfolios.
  • Special Requirements :

  • Occasional travel required for events, meetings, and donor engagement.
  • Flexibility for some evening or weekend responsibilities related to events or food drives.
  • Willingness to assist with other organizational duties as needed.
  • Working Conditions and Physical Demands :

  • This position involves standard office work in a professional environment, with occasional time spent in the warehouse or offsite at donor facilities. Ability to stand for extended periods indoors or outdoors may be required.
