Our Tutors

Our Math Tutors are selected from a diverse group of individuals from various backgrounds across the United States to support our students in mathematics; each tutor brings their unique skill set to assist students' success. We seek talented, caring, and capable people committed to supporting our students in their academic and social development.

What You'll Do

The Lead Tutor manages a small caseload of middle or high school students and delivers high-dosage, high-impact daily math tutoring using Saga's curriculum and instructional model. Lead Tutors provide individualized instruction during multiple class periods each day and also facilitate small-group learning, independent practice, assessments, and high-rigor math activities for students not in direct tutoring sessions. They build strong, meaningful relationships as mentors and advocates for students, while also serving as site leaders who support day-to-day program operations and help ensure smooth implementation of the tutoring program. This role will serve as back-up site coverage when the Site Coordinator is absent. Some of the key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Assist Site Directors with creating new tutor orientation supports
  • Provide daily math tutoring to your assigned caseload of students for a minimum of 3 class periods per day
  • Facilitate pull-out learning groups, independent practice, assessments etc. for students working on adaptive math platforms when not directly tutoring
  • Prep for tutoring sessions using Saga Curriculum

  • Prepare thoroughly for tutoring sessions using Saga curriculum materials and data-informed lesson planning.
  • Build strong, consistent relationships with students to set clear expectations, foster engagement, and manage behavior effectively.

Data-Driven Instruction

  • Manage the accurate entry, analysis, and use of student academic data to differentiate instruction and adjust lesson plans to address individual learning needs.
  • Partner with the Site Coordinator to regularly review student performance data, identify learning gaps, and contribute to instructional and programmatic solutions.
  • Maintain student attendance records, monitor academic progress, and provide timely, actionable feedback.

Leadership, Mentorship & Professional Development

  • Support the onboarding and development of new tutors by assisting with lesson planning, modeling effective instructional practices, and leading team-building activities.
  • Participate in weekly observations, feedback sessions, reflections, evaluations, and professional development with the Program Manager, and consistently implement feedback to improve practice.

  • Maintain regular, ongoing communication with parents/guardians via email, text, or phone, based on family preference, and document outreach efforts.
  • Build strong working relationships with teachers, school staff, and community partners to support student success.
  • Partner with the Site Coordinator to develop and implement student incentives, progress trackers, and recognition activities, including celebrations and awards.

Site Coverage & Program Operations

  • Provide on-site program coverage during absences of the Site Coordinator or other key staff, ensuring instructional continuity, adherence to program expectations, and effective communication with tutors and school partners.
  • Address and help de-escalate routine on-site issues or questions involving tutors or students, escalating concerns to the Site Coordinator or Program Manager as appropriate.
  • Maintain site operations and program fidelity during Site Coordinator absences, supporting tutors and serving as the primary on-site lead.
  • Support site-level operations as needed, including STAR assessment implementation and facilitation of mixed review sessions.
  • Proactively monitor and respond to email and Slack communications daily and maintain regular consultation with the Site Coordinator and Program Manager.
  • Engage in additional duties as assigned by the Site Coordinator, Program Manager, or school site to ensure smooth program operations.
  • Lead team-building activities and assist new tutors with lesson planning
  • Manage the input and analysis of student data to differentiate math instruction for your students and adapt lesson plans as needed
  • Partner with the Site Director to review and analyze data and contribute to finding solutions to fill student knowledge gaps
  • Maintain attendance records, monitor student academic progress, and provide feedback
  • Maintain regular ongoing communication with parents/guardians via email, text, or phone, based on parent/guardian preference and record efforts
  • Partner with the Site Director to develop student incentives, trackers, and support with celebrations/awards/recognition
  • Proactively check and respond to emails and Slack daily, and regularly consult with your Site Director
  • Participate in weekly observation and feedback sessions with your Site Director or Director of Program, as well as weekly reflections, evaluations and professional development for continuous growth and to implement feedback to enhance student learning
  • Lead professional development sessions in an area of interest and contribute to tutor best practices library of resources
  • Build strong relationships with students to set expectations and manage behavior effectively
