Store Manager

Overview

Position : General Manager – Pet Care Center.

Location : Queens, NY.

Base pay range : $88,000 – $92,000 per year.

Seniority level : Mid‑Senior.

Employment type : Full‑time.

Function : Sales and Customer Service.

Responsibilities

The General Manager leads the Pet Care Center to deliver a high‑performing team and profitable business while focusing on pet welfare, guest service, and operational excellence.

People :

Build and develop a diverse team that embodies the Petco brand; attract, hire, and retain top talent; train, coach, and develop leaders and hourly partners; foster a culture of teamwork, inclusion, and collaboration; manage partner performance and promote continuous improvement.

Performance :

Meet or exceed sales, profitability, and operational goals; schedule labor to maximize productivity; review financial and operational reports; identify under‑performance and implement improvement strategies; market the Center and oversee events.

Process :

Ensure the health, welfare, and proper handling of animals; maintain merchandising and inventory standards; complete accounting, inventory, and payroll paperwork; keep the Center's appearance and safety standards; protect pets and merchandise; open and close the Center according to policy.

Other Essential Duties :

Model inspiring leadership, promote safety, foster collaboration, prioritize talent development, and engage with the community as Petco’s brand ambassador.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; proficiency in business and finance, analytical and problem‑solving skills, strong focus on people development and guest service.

Excellent communication and computer skills.

Three or more years of management experience (retail preferred).

Knowledge of general business practices and strong organizational skills.

Licensed driver and willing to perform physical demands (lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for long periods).

Passion for pets and genuine interest in animal welfare.

Supervisory Responsibility

The General Manager directly supervises a team of leaders and all Pet Care Center partners.
