Job Summary
The Lead Multimedia News Producer and Videographer will work as part of the Office of Media Relations and Communications in planning and executing all aspects of the production of digital expressions of FIU stories, including concept, scripting, scheduling and location management of shoots. This position will work directly with media professionals to initiate and finalize the creation of content for the media and for FIU's owned channels.
Develops and creates digital content for the Office of Media Relations and Communications, in collaboration with the Multimedia Productions team, by executing a production schedule and facilitating communication among all team members.
Collaborates with all the departments within the division, to plan and execute digital expressions of content related to human interest, breaking news, science, research and FIU stories.
Assists in all aspects of the production and media services and coordinates postproduction services.
Identifies and develops original story ideas that can be told most effectively in a multimedia format. Prepares projects to be used for various digital mediums, including web and social. Maintains a database and library of completed and ongoing projects.
Produces, creates and edits multimedia storytelling content to include videos, digital photography, audio slideshows, etc., to share with media and use in FIU's owned channels.
Coordinates photo, text and digital assets needed for stories related to media relations and communications.
Works with internal and external university partners to publish, create and integrate engaging editorial content that drives awareness of the overall FIU brand.
Implements industry-wide SEO standards to maximize exposure and coverage of stories.
Maintains a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology and systems.
Assists in training staff and interns on use of equipment and multimedia software.
Performs essential duties in emergencies such as hurricanes, storms, and / or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field and eight (8) years of experience in related field; OR twelve (12) years of experience in related field; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and / or experience. Two (2) years of experience supervising two (2) employees.
Desired Qualifications
Demonstrated experience telling a variety of stories visually.
Journalism background preferred.
Experience in building original multimedia content, web, and social media. Ability to write and edit such content.
Proficient in using photo / video software, such as Adobe, Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, etc.
