Must-Have : Experience with telemetry and drips. Flexibility in assignments.
Description :
Unit has 25 beds with an average census of 12-15 patients.
Nurse-patient ratios are 1 : 4-5 for acute care and 1 : 6-8 for non-skilled and skilled swing beds.
Common diagnoses include CHF, COPD, general medical floor patients, SDS patients, rehab patients, wound care, and skilled nursing patients.
Nurses are expected to mix some medications.
Experience in telemetry and titration of drips is required.
Common titratable drips include Insulin, Diltiazem, Nitro, and Heparin.
Charge Nurse is present on each shift, with a Nurse Manager available for support.
Patient care techs are assigned at a ratio of 1 : 8-10.
RNs are responsible for respiratory treatments and oxygen management with CRNA on call for complex needs.
Telemetry tasks include basic strip sign-offs during shifts.
Shifts are typically scheduled 4 weeks in advance with blocks of shifts together.
Weekend requirement is typically every other weekend.
The nurse may float to different areas or teams based on experience and needs.
Scrub color is flexible as long as it is clean and professional.
Department-specific orientation includes unit competencies and clinical informatics training.
