Job Title : Lower School Third Grade Teacher - Long-Term Substitute
Responsible to : Head of Lower School
FLSA Classification : Exempt

Position Summary : The Haverford School is seeking a full-time long-term substitute third-grade teacher to begin in December 2025. Preferred candidates will have at least 3 years of elementary school teaching experience, a solid understanding of differentiated instruction, and a strong understanding of instruction aligned with the science of learning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Establish and communicate to students well-defined objectives for each lesson, including related projects and activities
- Employ teaching methods to deliver the School’s instructional program which consider the individual needs, interests, abilities, and maturity levels of the students
- Build partnerships with families and communicate effectively with them about the academic, social, and emotional growth of their child.
- Provide a structured, supportive, encouraging, and creative classroom environment
- Monitor carpool, lunch, recess and playground, as assigned
- Possesses an understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion and the implementation of those principles at independent school
- Perform all other duties, tasks, and assignments as directed by the Head of Lower School
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
Bachelor's DegreeEarly childhood / elementary skills and experienceAbility to plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessonsEffective communicator, both verbally and in writing, with colleagues and parentsEnthusiastic interest in teaching, motivating, and mentoring lower school studentsA role model for studentsWillingness to collaborate with peersHas engaged in professional development on the science of reading, visible learning, social and emotional learning / developmentExperience with classroom management and positive behavior support systemsHas experience designing and implementing a diverse curriculum that promotes equity and inclusivityProven ability to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgroundsSense of humor, enthusiastic and happy, high ethical professional standards, and multi-cultural perspectiveDesired Qualifications
Familiarity with current research on the education of and learning styles of boysPennsylvania Level I or II certificationAptitude in teaching children with varying abilities and learning stylesExperience teaching literacy aligned with the science of reading and writing and math aligned with the principles of spaced learning and visible learningFamiliarity with Canvas, Second Step, positive behavior support systems, a comprehensive literacy program, and an understanding of the fluency of skills and application of mathematics.Required Physical Characteristics
Works in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.Be able to occasionally lift up to15 lbs.Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled office environment.Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and coldContact Information :
