Job Description

About Forge

At Forge Biologics, we believe in turning bold ideas into life-changing realities. Our mission is simple yet powerful : to enable access to life-changing gene therapies and help bring them from idea into reality. We partner with scientists, physicians, biotech and pharma innovators, and patient communities — all united by one goal : improving lives. If you're driven by purpose and excited to make a tangible impact, this is where your journey begins.

Our team works out of The Hearth, a state-of-the-art, 200,000-square-foot cGMP facility in Columbus, Ohio. Here, you won't just watch innovation happen — you'll be part of it. Whether you're scaling AAV manufacturing, collaborating on cutting-edge therapies, or supporting complex technical projects, you'll play a key role in bringing hope to patients with genetic diseases.

About the Role :

We are seeking a Data Platform Engineer to join the Technology Services team to support our state-of-the-art gene therapy manufacturing facility in Columbus, Ohio. In this role, you'll be instrumental in designing, building, and maintaining scalable data infrastructure and pipelines that support enterprise-wide analytics, reporting, and decision-making.

As we advance our data platform capabilities, you will also have the opportunity to support the adoption and implementation of Microsoft Fabric . While prior experience with Microsoft Fabric is not required, familiarity with modern data platforms and a willingness to learn are strongly valued.

What You'll Do :

  • Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines for extracting, transforming, and loading (ETL) data from a variety of sources.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and cross-functional teams to optimize data workflows and ensure quality, security, and governance.
  • Integrate data from multiple internal and external sources (e.g., databases, APIs, data warehouses).
  • Apply data transformation techniques, including cleansing, enrichment, aggregation, and filtering.
  • Monitor and optimize performance of data processing systems, identifying bottlenecks and applying performance tuning strategies.
  • Conduct data validation and implement quality checks to ensure accuracy and completeness across the pipeline.
  • Support the ongoing development and implementation of cloud-based data platforms, including Microsoft Fabric and similar technologies.

What You'll Bring :

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (Master's preferred).
  • 4+ years of experience in data engineering, data integration, data modeling, or related fields.
  • Ability to develop scalable, high-performing data pipelines that support AI, ML, and BI applications.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C / C++, and tools like SQL, R, SAS, or Excel.
  • Experience working with modern data architectures, including cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
  • Familiarity with modern data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, or Snowflake (Fabric experience preferred but not required).
  • Hands-on experience with relational and non-relational databases (e.g., SQL, NoSQL, Oracle, Hadoop).
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with an ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, with a track record of resolving complex data issues.
  • Ability to work onsite (in Columbus, Ohio) 1 week / month is strongly preferred.
  • This position works in a typical office environment where the physical work demands will vary depending on the specific tasks and duties required of the job. This is largely a sedentary role; persons holding office positions are generally subject to inside environmental conditions having the lighting, temperature, and noise of an open floor-plan office environment. Regularly operate a computer and other office equipment. Regularly communicate with others in person, over the phone, and electronically. Must be able to move and / or carry objects weighing up to 10 lbs.

This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee. Duties, responsibilities and activities may change or new ones may be assigned.
