Congressional School seeks a part-time Coach for the 2025-2026 academic year. The Coach is responsible for creating an environment that fosters and promotes physical fitness and discovers and develops talents of students in physical achievement. The Coach is a member of a collaborative team and delivers a program that is student-centered and focused on developing a lifelong love of the sport / area of focus. The Coach is knowledgeable and has relevant experience in the sport.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides coaching and guidance to Middle School aged students in the sport(s) of focus
- Conducts and leads practices and games
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment
- Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and areas
- Provides individualized and small group instruction to meet the needs of each student
- Evaluates each student's growth in physical skills, knowledge and contribution in team sports
- Communicates with parents and the the Director of Athletics on student progress
- Attends staff development programs, curriculum development meetings, in-service days and other professional and community activities, when appropriate
- Performs any other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in physical education or related field; (Assistant Coaches minimum requirements : Associates Degree or High School Diploma with a track towards an higher education degree.)Experience in the sport(s) they are intending on coachingMinimum 2 years' relevant coaching experience, strongly preferredExperience with coaching / teaching middle school age studentsKnowledge and ability to instruct a wide range of sport activities a plusStrong initiative and organizational skillsAbility to work afternoons and early evening hoursAn ability to work in a joyful, collegial and collaborative environmentA sense of humor, warm personality, and growth mindset
