Community Reporter

The Argus Observer in Ontario, Oregon, is excited to announce an opening for a full-time journalist who is passionate about local reporting and storytelling. This position will primarily focus on covering local government and educational developments in Malheur County but will also provide the chance to dive into engaging lifestyle and human interest stories that reflect the essence of the Western Treasure Valley.

As part of our news team, community reporters will play a vital role in both our daily digital content and our weekly print releases, in addition to contributing to various specialty publications that cater to our readership.

The successful applicant will thrive in a fast-paced journalism environment and will need to be agile in managing multiple tasks while meeting deadlines. An acute sense of urgency and enthusiasm for covering breaking news will be crucial. Additionally, an eye for compelling visual storytelling will set candidates apart. Social media skills are essential for engaging with our audience effectively. Please note that the schedule for this position will vary based on workload, and night and weekend work is a requirement.

A degree in journalism or communications is preferred, but candidates with relevant journalism experience will also be given fair consideration. The starting salary for this position is $18 per hour, though this may be adjusted depending on the candidate's level of experience and qualifications.
