POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the principal and / or assistant principal, the Licensed Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities; Evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives; Follows State mandated due process procedures and functions as IEP case manager to assigned students.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited College or University
- Active Colorado Teaching License with Special Education Endorsement
- Bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish desired
- Minimum one year of teaching experience desired
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Strong organizational, time management, communication and interpersonal skillsThorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of special educationThorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching of students with disabilitiesAbility to deliver and articulate oral presentations and written reportsAbility to effectively analyze needs and problems objectivelyAbility to guide and train teachers in effective instructional techniques and strategiesAbility to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, students, parentsESSENTIAL DUTIES
Provide research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEPAssess student progress and determine the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniquesEmploy various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goalsDevelop and implement annual IEP plans for students to include : present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goalsCoordinate the delivery of special education services in each student’s IEPConduct special education evaluations and reevaluationsProvide direction, supervision and evaluation of educational assistants as directedCollaborate with classroom teachers regarding the student’s instructional needsCreate schedules for small group support, student progress monitoring, and IEP meeting daysPerform other duties as assignedInstructs students using strategies conducive to dual-language immersion, such as sheltered instruction, and cooperative learning.DISCLAIMER : The preceding job description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification.
