Primary Objective of Positions :
To instruct evening enrichment and / or recreation classes for adults with intellectual, developmental, sensory, cognitive and physical disabilities. To ensure a safe and fun atmosphere for all participants.
Job Responsibilities :
- Plan, prepare and teach classes in art, crafts, cooking, recreation, or leisure, that are specially designed and adapted to the individual abilities of Project SOAR participants.
- Develop enriching curriculum and / or programming.
- Provide ongoing feedback to Program Manager about class / activity outcomes and make recommendations as necessary.
- Plan and prepare supplies and materials required to successfully teach classes.
- Provide a safe, caring, and fun environment for participants.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
Job Qualifications :
- Evidence of successful experience working with persons with disabilities.
- Education and / or experience in special education preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge in teaching area.
- Evidence of positive interpersonal skills; ability to relate well to adults with special needs.
- Compassion for and understanding of adults with disabilities.
- Evidence of successful teaching and / or program leadership.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Proven record of punctuality and responsibility.
- Ability to preplan classes for a season in advance.
