Join to apply for the UACE The Garden Kitchen Garden Manager role at AmeriCorps . The Garden Manager leads a university community garden in the City of South Tucson, Arizona, assisting with growing crops, volunteer recruitment, and maintaining the garden space for educational activities. Join The Garden Kitchen team in creating a safe and vibrant space for community members to learn about gardening. The member will manage the garden space, ensure crops are culturally appropriate, maintained for the education of community members of all ages, and water-saving techniques are implemented appropriately. This position is ideal for someone who wants to work independently outside in an arid, dry environment planting, harvesting, cultivating, weeding, and growing fruits and vegetables.
Member Duties
- Plant and maintain vegetable plants and fruit trees in the community garden.
- Remediate noxious plants and pests using organic and integrated pest management practices.
- Ensure the irrigation system is fully functional and settings are optimized for plant health.
- Coordinate with the Vertically Integrated Projects student team to create passive water-saving demonstration areas.
- Recruit volunteers to assist with garden maintenance.
- Assist with all hands-on needs for The Garden Kitchen programming.
- Must have the ability to work independently, outdoors in various weather conditions, and to lift over 50 pounds.
- Must have general gardening knowledge.
