Responsibilities:

This position is crucial to the operation of the department. The dispatcher answers calls and dispatches officers in an efficient and orderly manner. The shift supervisor (usually Sergeant or Corporal) assigns officers to different areas of campus but any officer may be called on to respond to any situation. The Dispatcher must decide the priority of calls when there is more than one problem to deal with.

Qualifications:

Candidates must have a high school diploma/GED and have excellent telephone and communication skills. Candidates with prior dispatch experience and/or knowledge of police work are highly desirable.

Knowledges/Skills/Abilities:

• Must be able to deal with potential pressure of dealing with multi-emergency situations at a time in a calm manner in order to dispatch efficiently

• Must be able to deal with proximity to potentially dangerous people who may curse spit scream etc.

• Ability to sit for long periods of time to operate radio computer and camera monitors.

• Should be able to adapt to sudden changes in schedule if needs arise.
