Overview :

Equity Advocates are student leaders who support and represent the Office of Access, Equity and Diversity (OAED). Equity Advocates are considered student employees of the OAED office and will work directly with professional staff to utilize compassion, critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration skills to support the ¡Andale! students. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to advancing social justice, equity, and diversity. Equity Advocates plan an important role for students of color to participate in campus employment and critical learning opportunities.

Campus Location : Des Plaines

Length of Employment : November 2025- May 2026

Hours available : 5-12 hours a week

Schedule Flexibility : Flexible with schedule but with some consistency.

Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities and Learning Outcomes :

  • Facilitate essential CCID duties- including front-desk administrative duties (i.e. answering phones, receiving visitors, answering questions, etc.) (PF, CD)
  • Collaborate with CCID staff & administration on events, critical conversations, activities, etc. (LD, CM)
  • Administer, collect, and assist in data collection, analysis, and improvement planning. (EI, CT)
  • Serve as acting ambassador for the ¡ANDALE! program. (EI, LD)
  • Assist in the the recruitment of students, pass out flyers, classroom announcement, etc. (LD, CM)
  • Assist with marketing, promotions, and social media content with the intention of creating campus awareness of BSSP / ANDALE and programs, services and resources. (CM)
  • Assist in facilitating presentations to campus and community members (LD, CM)
  • Introduce speakers, panelists, and special guests. (PF, CM)
  • Co-host topic discussions and educational sessions on issues related to the Latinx diaspora. (LD, EI)
  • Engage in identity-based leadership. (LD, EI)
  • Participate in critical learning opportunities and workshops. (CD, CT)
  • Read and discuss articles. (CD, CT)

Candidate Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Other abilities) :

  • Must be currently enrolled at Oakton College in at least six credit hours during the Fall & Spring semesters. Employment over the summer is allowed for students taking at least 1 credit class during the summer, or students continuing registration into the following Fall semester.
  • Can show proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  • At time of hire a minimum GPA of 2.0 and be in good standing or first semester enrolled at Oakton.
  • Able to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Demonstrated reliability and responsibility.
  • Outgoing, flexible, organized, creative, respectful, and punctuality a must.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office and Google technology (GSUITE)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Familiar with social media.
  • Some evening hours.
  • Applicants should have an interest in social justice, marketing, design, social media, analyzing data, event planning and dialogues.
