Overview

Democracy Docket is seeking a Video Editor to join our growing team. This new role will edit long-form and short-form content for our social media channels, including YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. The ideal candidate has expertise in storytelling, pacing, music, and graphics, and has edited both podcasts and narrative-style content. To really stand out, you should have a good grasp of democracy issues, and creative ideas about how to get the most out of our content.

About Democracy Docket Democracy Docket is the leading digital news platform dedicated to information, analysis and opinion about voting rights and elections in the courts. Founded in 2020 by Democratic voting rights attorney Marc Elias, Democracy Docket tracks and reports on the latest election and voting-related litigation, providing filings, in-depth analysis and up-to-date developments. We offer free daily and weekly newsletters to our subscribers as well as a premium membership with exclusive content.

Key Responsibilities

• Edit raw footage into long-form and short-form content for Democracy Docket’s social media channels.
• Incorporate motion graphics, sound effects, and music to enhance storytelling.
• Manage post-production workflow and file system.
• Design thumbnails for YouTube videos.
• Adapt to fast-paced workflows and be responsive to urgent editorial needs, including outside of normal business hours.

Required Qualifications

Work Environment

This is a full-time role based out of either our Washington, D.C. or Jersey City office. We currently operate on a hybrid schedule, with remote work on Mondays and Fridays and in-office days on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. This role will be part of the Video Team while working closely with our founder and the News and Growth Teams.

Salary

Salary Range : $80,000-$90,000
