Firefighter
The City of Montclair is offering a rewarding opportunity for a dedicated individual to join the Fire Department as a Firefighter. This position offers a competitive salary range of $83,986.20 to $102,093.60 annually and is based in Montclair, CA.
This full-time position includes scheduled salary increases through 2025 and potential additional longevity conduct pay for every five years of continuous city service. The base salary will increase by 2% effective July 1, 2025.
Under supervision, the Firefighter will respond to fire alarms, rescue, and other emergency calls; protect life and property endangered by fire and other hazards; assist in daily fire prevention inspections; participate in training, drill, and independent study activities; assist in maintenance of fire stations, grounds, and equipment; and perform related duties as required.
The role requires knowledge of elementary mathematics, physics, chemistry, mechanics, and first aid techniques; federal, state, and local codes, and rules and regulations relating to fire fighting; city and departmental policies and procedures; basics of grounds maintenance and housekeeping functions; equipment operation and maintenance; and proper lifting, carrying, and climbing techniques.
Skills include reading and understanding technical manuals and materials regarding fire fighting; learning principles of fire fighting and fire prevention; continuing education in the field of fire science; understanding and following oral and written directions under conditions of stress and pressures; working effectively and using sound judgment in hazardous situations; working effectively as a team member and individually; maintaining cooperative working relations; communicating courteously and effectively with the public; and writing simple reports and keeping records.
Education and experience requirements include graduation from High School or completion of G.E.D., preferably supplemented by coursework in Fire Science, and graduation from a California State Fire Marshal Accredited Fire Academy or possession of a California State Fire Marshal Accredited Firefighter I certificate. Licenses required include a valid Class C California driver's license, proof of insurability, a copy of a current and valid Paramedic license, ACLS certification, and a copy of a current and valid CPR certification. Information on where and when the CPAT or Biddle physical ability test was taken (must be within the last 24 months) is also required.
