The objective of the Student Programs at Nexteer Automotive is to select students with high potential and provide them with "real world" work experiences. Work assignments expose students to many of the company’s products, processes and procedures. Assignments are designed to assimilate acquired classroom education with actual hands-on work experience in a technical environment. Nexteer is looking for an inquisitive, highly self-motivated student who is eager to learn and has good attention to detail and time management skills. This position is responsible for supporting engineering activities related to torque control, power management, and thermal management for electric motor drives included in electronic steering systems. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn about motor control systems, signals, and software. The student will work cross functionally with multiple internal teams (i.e. software, requirements, mechanical, validation) to support product development and verification activities.

Job Description

Applies core motor control designs to specific projects, supporting verification testing, calibration, and release.

Support technology development, innovation, efficiency and process improvement activities

Develops software tools for test data processing

Verifies and calibrates torque control, power management, and thermal management functions to meet system requirements.

Diagnoses and corrects deficiencies in software, designs and prototypes.

Works cross functionally with multiple internal teams (i.e. software, requirements, mechanical, electrical, validation) to support product development in all phases from concept to production.

Proficient written and verbal communication skills, ability to interface effectively with people, high motivation, and good organization and time management skills.

Preferred Skills

A basic understanding of electric motors, controls, or power electronics

Interest in gaining deeper understanding and in-depth analysis related to machines and electrical hardware

Interest in AI applications and machine learning models

MATLAB scripting and Simulink experience is preferred

Programming experience using C, C#, Visual Basic, or Python would be a plus

Basics in electromagnetics would be a plus

Job Requirements

Candidate must be attending a 2-year college or 4-year university local to Saginaw or surrounding area

Candidate must be pursuing a Bachelors or Masters in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Physics

Candidate must be able to work 20-32 hours during Fall and Winter semesters

Up to 40 in the summer

Must have cumulative 2.7 GPA on 4.0 scale

Must be a full-time student (12 or more credits) during Fall and Winter semesters

Candidate must have right to work in the US and not require current or future sponsorship
